Kilt is a garment resembling a knee-length skirt of pleated tartan cloth. Everybody known that skirt is familiar for a woman to wear. Nowadays, fashion make the boy will wear it in any ways and any time. Traditionally worn by men as part of Scottish Highland dress and now also worn by women and girls. A kilt is basically a pleated, wrapped skirt. The back half of the kilt is pleated, The front half is the made of two overlapping panels. A true kilt is completely handmade. There is example of kilt. A single pleat is made up of a full sett (pattern) width, with an average one-inch exposed pleat. The pleating can be done “to the sett”, duplicating the pattern, or regimental “to the stripe”. If the size of the sett were 8 inches, one pleat would use 9 inches. 42-inch hip measurement requires 4 yards of double-width tartan. Hip and waist meaurements determine the pleating needed. The length of the kilt is measured from waist to mid-knee, adding 2 inches for a higher rise (waist) if a wide kilt belt is to be worn.It is not easy to make a kilt. What countries wear the kilt? Whilst the Scottish tradition is to wear a kilt made from your family tartan, the Irish kilt is normally worn in either plain colours or in a tartan reflecting the locality of your family origin. Why do me wear kilt? Today most Scottish people regard kilts as formal dress or national dress. Although there are still a few people who wear a kilt daily, it is generally owned or hired to be worn at weddings or other formal occasions and may be worn by anyone regardless of nationality or descent. Where did the kilt originate? The traditional garment, either in its historical form, or in the modern adaptation now usual in Scotland , usually in a tartan pattern. The kilts worn by Irish pipe bands are based on the traditional Scottish garment but now in a single colour.
